Surf Motel

Surf Motel, a boutique hotel in Echo Beach, Bali, was designed in collaboration with its owner, whose surf-skate-street-inspired brand encompasses a clothing line, surf school, and music production business. 

The design embraced a retro, warm aesthetic, featuring medium to dark rich woods and bold masculine colors like indigo navy, which contrasted beautifully with the softness of the previously brutalist space. The lobby exudes a cozy, inviting atmosphere, reminiscent of California or European interiors, while seamlessly fitting into Bali’s tropical setting. 

Lush outdoor tropical plants and tranquil water features enhance the serene ambiance, and retro speakers paired with a low wall unit complete a contemporary take on a “Mad Men” 1960s-inspired theme, achieving authenticity without feeling forced.
